Little Brothers

“Offroadyj” tells us that he loaned his Jeep to his little brother. Who promised him that he would take care of it and not do anything stupid. I’m told that the funereal is next week.

Send me photos of you and your Jeep!

That’ll void the warranty

YouTube video of driver and Jeep showing off.  It’s five minutes long, but you can skip the first two minutes.

Great American Jeep Rally

It was a cold and rainy day, but over 500 Jeeps showed up for this year’s Great American Jeep Rally in Sommers Connecticut.  They’ve been putting on a great event for several years. These pictures are compliments of JpTalon from the WranglerForum.

Tent Sale at Quadratec

West Chester Pennsylvania was originally made famous by the Valley Forge battlefield, and some people now know it as the home of MTV’s Bam Margera.  But it’s also the headquarters for Quadratec, well known to all of us as one of the bigger internet/mail order Jeep accessory companies around.  And if Quadratec’s annual Tent Sale gets any bigger it may well become the thing West Chester is famous for.

Last weekend they held their annual sale.  It wasn’t just great deals on an amazing array of Jeep stuff, it was also great food, a petting zoo,  and Jeep shine-n-shows and events.

Bestop was there.  Regional sales Manager Brad Bricker manned the booth and sent us these photos.

Here’s one way to get a bit more leg room in an old CJ.

EFBs

From 1966 to 1977, Ford made the classic Bronco - fans call it the Early Ford Bronco (EFB) to distinguish it from the later, bigger model.  The EFB has become one of the most collectible 4×4 models out there.

And Bestop makes Bikini tops and Supertops for them.

If you’re in the market for a top for your EFB, you’ll most likely end up at the web sites for these companies. They’ve established themselves as the go-to guys for everything related to Broncos.   Give them a visit and check out these amazing rigs.

These pictures are from customer-submitted rides at these sites. I picked a few that had Bestop tops.

What were you doing in 1979?

On September 27th, 1979,  a young lady named Cindy Alvarado started her first day here at Bestop.  Thirty Years to the day later, she’s still here. Congratulations to our Aftermarket Channel Manager.

It’s the Drags in Wisconsin

At Great Lakes Dragway in Union Grove, Wisconsin, they have this thing called “Wacky Wednesdays.”  The idea is that you can drag with anything you can get to the race track.

And the guys from Wisconsin 4×4  (WI4×4.com) have Jeeps.

The videos are from JesseJames, and include footage of his buddies Jim (YoungYeller), Kyle (JustClimbIt),  Wade(89Eliminator), David(David-Z),  and Jerry (JeepinJerry). If you like what you see, stop by WI4×4 and tell them so.   Here at Bestop, we always like to see people having some fun in their Jeeps.

Thanks, Justin, for sharing.

Strolling through Jeep’s History

Just some pictures to share of a few less popular Jeep models from years gone by.

The Jeep FC.  Designed by famed automotive designer Brooks Stevens, this design allowed a long bed length on a relatively short body. These have always been collectible, but are getting very hot right now.

This is a gorgeous example of not just a 1970 Jeepster Commando, but of a very special model. This is a Hurst edition.  It gets the shaker hood with built in tach, and the Hurst gated shifter. But it still had the same Dauntless V6, so it was really just an appearance package.  This is most likely the rarest Jeep model ever, so it’s very collectible.

Jeep has always struggled with the CJ model being a little too short to be practical.  These days they’ve hit a home run with the JK 4 Door. But in the 60’s, the solution was this: the CJ6.

This is a CJ10. It’s fairly rare, and is mostly used as an airport tug.  They’re starting to see increased attention as a base for building rock crawlers. Big axles, low gears, overbuilt automatics, and a diesel. That’s a nice base.

It’s Friday!

Enjoy your weekend. Get your 4×4 out and enjoy the weather. My 1980 CJ is finally back on the road, so I’ll be bouncing around on some Colorado road or another this weekend.

Totally unrelated, but if you or a friend are in the market for soft tops, make sure you know all about our rebate. It’s going on right now. Visit www.bestop.com for more.

Here’s a video clip you might enjoy. It’s Formula Off Road, a European off road trials competition. These guys do some crazy stuff. Or at least try to do some crazy stuff.

Rock Crawling? What’s that?

Someone pointed out to me that we’ve been featuring a lot of Colorado rock crawling trips. That’s not, they said, what it’s like everywhere in this big country.

Fair enough.  Here are a few photos from Dustin D., of Pekin, Illinois, which is in the center of the state. They haven’t got that many mountains to climb there.  But they have this.  And evidently they have a LOT of it.

Dustin drives a 1994 Sahara 4.0 5spd, with a  4 inch Rough Country lift and 33″ BFG tires.  It also has a Supertop.   Thanks for sharing the photos, Dustin. Let me know if you make it out to Colorado.  I’d go wheelin’ with you, but it would take a two week vacation just to get my Jeep clean again.
