Mechanical and Suspension Upgrades

Final Adjustments and Testing

As the build nears completion, Dave and his team work tirelessly to address the last-minute mechanical and aesthetic details. Episode 2 – Shaping the Jeep Truck Bed and Upgrading the Suspension

In this action-packed episode of The Unreal Adventure, Dave and his buddy Mark dive deeper into the transformation of a classic Jeep into a formidable off-road truck. The episode kicks off with a nod to the simple pleasures as Dave appreciates Mark’s effort in picking up breakfast burritos before diving into the tough work of gathering necessary parts for the build.

Building the Truck Bed

The focus shifts to constructing the truck bed, a crucial element of the Jeep’s transformation. Dave lays out tubing on the welding table, marking the initial shapes for the upper bed rail. This meticulous process involves replicating one side to ensure symmetry and integrating design elements that contribute to the Jeep’s rugged aesthetics.

Design and Functionality

Dave emphasizes creating a bed that not only looks good but is also functional. He adjusts the proportions to accommodate larger tires and fender flares, ensuring the bed has the correct overhang and maintains practical usability. His goal is to strike the perfect balance between a rock crawler and a desert racer style, enhancing the Jeep’s off-road capabilities.

Suspension Overhaul

As the bed starts to take shape, attention turns to the suspension system. The Jeep is currently equipped with a stock JK setup, including a Dana Ultimate 60 crate axle and a long-arm kit installed back in 2012. Dave discusses the plan to upgrade to a new front Coilover suspension system from Skyjacker, aiming to improve travel and durability. The episode concludes with Dave and Mark beginning to swap out the lower links and adjusting the suspension setup to better handle the rig’s new demands.

Looking Ahead

Dave teases the next steps in the build process, promising more intricate work on the bed and the complete installation of the Coilover system. The episode wraps up with a sneak peek at the challenges and progress that lie ahead, inviting viewers to keep following the journey as the Jeep truck transformation continues to evolve.

Shaker Racing

This 1967 Jeep Kaiser M715 is The Metal Shop’s flagship monster truck. But it’s more than just a monster truck, it’s the driving force behind the constantly evolving chassis design now seen all over the sport.

The Shaker is the product of a lifelong dream between a father and a son. Rick Disharoon and his son, Ryan Disharoon, first developed the Shaker for mud racing. By 2014, Shaker had been taken to the next level – ready to compete in the monster truck circuit. Its namesake is a tribute to the men and women who served our country and paid the ultimate sacrifice during the Vietnam war.

Bestop’s very own Jose Vigil who is our Softgoods Designer created a custom soft top out of our premium Black Twill material to go on the Saigon Shaker! Ryan and the Shaker came to Bestop before the May 13th Denver Monster Jam show to have the top installed. The team loved meeting Ryan and getting to climb all around the Shaker. Ryan raced the monster truck in the Denver Monster Jam show introducing the new Bestop logo top.
