Would not buy again - buyer beware

"Had the original bestop for my 2015 SR5 - really liked it. Finally wore out so I went with the bestop 2, completely regret the purchase. Seems to be built well but fit on the 2nd gen tacoma is not great, rear flap re-design is terrible (old one the flap was permanently fixed to the cross bar so you could lift the whole thing like a hardtopper back window - current version you have to unattach the back flap from the crossbar, fold up the back flap, remove the crossbar, then repeat in reverse to close. Design left me scratching my head. All that in itself would be ok - but worst part is that rainwater pools an inch deep on top at the rear. Was told by customer service "this is normal with softtoppers - just nock the rainwater off." The original topper did not have this issue, and now every time it rains I have to use a stick to push water off the top? So now I'm stuck having to garage fab some fix to design flaws after spending $1,100. Oh, and if you unbox, install, and realize all these issues and want to return? You can't. No returns if it's been unboxed. So I'm stuck with a topper that doesnt fit my truck, is a pain to open, and collects rain water. If all of that sounds fun, go ahead and pull the trigger on this topper. If not - keep looking."

Instructions were easy to follow.

"Instructions were easy to follow. I'm 71 years old and did the install by myself. Getting the corners of the canvas stretched and set in the track was a bit challenging but other than that, the install went very well. Reason for only 4 stars: My only small complaint: when zipping up the rear panel to access the truck bed, there is no way to keep the panel up, out of the way, while trying to get into the bed. I usually remove the tailgate bar and lay it on the panel, on the roof. But a gust of wind can blow it down. Other than that, I love the versatility of the top, looks great, and constantly get compliments from other truck owners. Great product. Very happy. Thanks, Gary"

Be Mindful of your Climate

"I purchased this canopy for my 2020 Tacoma in May 2021. I enjoyed it for that summer and was surprised that it did not hold up well in the winter. The plastic cracked, the zippers froze and they were incredibly hard to adjust in the cold. The inside was moulded by the following summer, and it continuously leaked in the rain. I think this canopy would work GREAT and serve its purpose well if I lived in a warm climate but living in the PNW, is not ideal."

"I have owned this soft shell for 3-4 months now and have put it to good use. Below I will list the good, the bad, and the ugly on this truck 2 version for the Tacoma. Good -price point -canvas material used -99% waterproof (camped in rain and snow) -overall look Bad -the brackets for securing the frame aren’t the easiest to install. My buddy has this soft shell as well and on both of our installs, we had to cross-thread the bolts into the bracket to install the framing securely to the bed. -having to always take off the back bar to open the back of the soft shell gets annoying. Sometimes I will just leave the bar off so I just have to zip the window up and down to access my stuff. -not having an opening in the design to access the trucks rear window. Ugly -the stitching on one of the rear flaps is already starting to come apart. I understand wear and tear can cause this, but I’ve only had this shell for a few months. Hopefully Bestop will warranty this for me or have a solution. Overall If you don’t want to spend the extra money on a hard shell and like the convenance of taking a shell on and off easily then this is a good option for you. It will keep you and your gear dry during rain and snow and will give your truck a nice rugged look. I have used this shell a good amount so far and it get lots of compliments and questions. The quality of the canvas is awesome, but the design of the back opening with the stitching already coming apart shows this product has some room for improvement."

Are you looking into adding different colors? Would the fabric accept any kind of paint?: Hi Michael, There are no plans to offer the Supertop for Truck 2 in colors unfortunately. I couldn't guarantee the material would accept paint, we haven't tested painting our material to know, I apologize.
What is the interior height on a 2017 tacoma 6ft bed?: Hi there, Unfortunately I don't have a height measurement however the top stands as tall as the cab.
Bought this and it didn't have the third brake light. Where do I get it?: Hi there, The 3rd brake light is a separate purchase, most states don't require it so we stopping including it in the kit. You can purchase the 3rd brake light by calling Customer Service at 800.845.3567, option 1. They're available Monday through Friday from 8am to 4pm, MST.
Is there an overland rack compatible with the Bestop truck 2 softcover?: Hi there, Unfortunately I'm not sure if there is a rack that is compatible with the Supertop for Truck 2, we don't test our products with other products for compatibly, I apologize.
Does this camper shell require/come with a third tail light? Are there any states where this could result in a ticket?: Hi John, As of right now, the inventory we have includes the 3rd brake light but soon the top will not include this, it will become a separate purchase for those who live in states that require a 3rd brake light. If you live in a state that requires this, and you don't have the 3rd brake light installed, I would assume that you might receive a ticket, yet.
